Friends, Lovers and Keepers
I believe I have discovered one of the most significant differences — if not even the most significant difference — between friends and lovers.
A friend will listen to what you have to say and then maybe tell you something like “everything will be alright”. If a friend starts an argument with you (or vice versa), and the argument goes a long time, then at some point a friend will simply agree to disagree.
In contrast: A lover won’t give up. A lover will try and fight for what’s right until the bitter end — and that’s probably why lovers are forever. That’s probably why lovers would walk through fire for each other… — but that’s not necessarily why a lover might qualify as a “keeper“.
To qualify as a keeper, a lover must be the kind who is able to solve whatever life may deal out without requiring anyone to walk through fire.
